Trek: The Making of the Movies
Author James Van Hise, whose name was familiar to me from old "Enterprise Incidents" mag articles, has indeed written an informative chronicle of the first six Star Trek films. This is one of those books that you'll read in just a couple of days, due to its quick pacing and points of interest (if you're into the "making of" angle of things).I've given this book only three stars for two reasons. First, photos are sparse, and tend to be only publicity stills at that. Given the book's subject matter, photos to support the technical info given would have increased the experience overall.Second, the most glaring shortcoming is the lack of proofreading. Not so much to check up on the data, which I have faith Van Hise has confirmed, but the grammar. Sentence fragments abound, words are run together, a line will be triple-spaced, etc. It leaves the reader wondering if Mr. Van Hise had any idea this was happening to his work.
