While not as well known as such Kurosawa masterpieces as Rashomon and The Seven Samurai, The Bad Sleep Well can be counted among some of the director's strongest later releases. Based on a novel by Ed McBain of the same name, this film tells the story of a corrupt Japanese businessman and the fate that befalls him. Once again, Kurosawa staple Mifune Toshirou takes the lead role, and is fascinating in his portrayal of a man trying to make his way up the ladder of success … mehrby marrying the crippled daughter of his boss. However, we soon find out that his motives are not so simple, and the story grows ever more complex as we find out who Mifune's charater really is. weniger
