On The Auteurs' third release, AFTER MURDER PARK, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Luke Haines abandons the light-hearted whimsy of his previous efforts in favor of darker, more brooding territory. The harder sound was no doubt influenced by super-producer and unlikely collaborator Steve Albini. With the darker sound comes more macabre subject matter, as evidenced by song titles like "Unsolved Child Murder" and "Tombstone." While AFTER MURDER PARK is not The Auteurs' most accessible work, it showcases Haines's cohesive orchestration along with his impeccable maturation as a songwriter. weniger
