Digitally remastered edition. The Broadway success of The Flower Drum Song re-established the songwriting team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II after two comparative flops on Broadway. Just as its Broadway run was coming to an end, so a London production opened, opening at the Palace Theatre on March 24, 1960. Directed and supervised by Jerome Whyte, the production ran for 464 performances. The soundtrack recording was a Top Ten hit barely two months after the show opened its doors.
