Because of his status among the Nazis, American playwright Howard W. Campbell is persuaded to become an allied spy within the Nazi party, ultimately becoming a notorious Nazi spokesman. As the Reich crumbles, so does Campbell's life, beginning with the death of his beloved wife. Escaping capture, he flees to America where Nazi haters and sympathizers confront him.
