Die musikalische Entwicklung von Stacie Orrico seit ihrem Debütalbum Genuine (2000) darf man getrost als beeindruckend bezeichnen. Von der damals noch spürbaren Unsicherheit ist nichts geblieben. Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen jungen, aufstrebenden Talenten verfügt sie bereits jetzt über eine unverwechselbare Stimme und genug Ideen, um auch auf Albumlänge bestehen zu können. Nicht unbedingt eine Selbstverständlichkeit in so jungen Jahren. Mitgeholfen haben mit Matt … mehrSerletic (Santana) und Dalles Austin (Pink, TLC) zwar ein paar herausragende Produzenten, doch viele Texte, Melodien und Songs hat Stacie Orrico diesmal bereits selbst beigesteuert. Kein Wunder also, das sich Stücke wie "Stuck" oder "(There's Gotta Be) More To Life" ganz anders als die sonst übliche Konfektionsware anhören. Stacie erfindet die Pop-Musik auf ihrem zweiten Album zwar nicht neu, aber sie verfügt über ein außergewöhnliches Gespür für ohrwurmartige Melodien, die nicht schon beim dritten Durchgang Sodbrennen auslösen. Die in Seattle geborene Künstlerin, die Whitney Houston, Ella Fitzgerald und Lauryn Hill verehrt, hat diesmal mehr Wert auf eine gesunde musikalische Aggressivität gelegt. So einfühlsam Songs wie "That's What Love's About" auch ausfallen, dass sie durchaus nicht auf dancefloor-orientiertere, härtere Töne verzichten will, wird spätestens bei "I Could Be The One" deutlich. Einer der Höhepunkte des Albums ist trotzdem eine Ballade, das von Diane Warren geschriebene "I Promise", bei der Stacie Orrico einmal mehr ihre stimmlichen Fähigkeiten voll ausspielt. --Norbert Schiegl weniger
